Get to Know Kim

Kim LeGate grew up on a farm in Sumner County.  As a child, she helped her father every day feed the pigs, cows, chickens, and horses and during her summer vacation from middle and high school she traveled with him to his service station in Madison to help with a variety of jobs.  She watched the compassion her father showed for his customers and how he truly cared about their needs.  This time spent with her father ingrained in her the value of hard work and the importance of thinking of others first and placing their needs before her own needs.

Following graduation from Portland High School, she got a job with the Davidson County Register of Deeds and moved from Portland to East Nashville.  She began at an entry-level job, worked her way up to Team Leader of the Recording Department, and now serves as Chief Deputy.

Kim has the experience and knowledge to make sure the office of Register of Deeds is accurate and effective.  She is a graduate of the Metropolitan Management Institute and has received her certification for Public Administrator with the County Officials Training Program.  She has worked on state and national issues for the Tennessee Register’s Association, has served on the board of the Property Records Industry Association, and served as a state coordinator for the National Association of County Recorders and Clerks.

Kim believes it is important to be active in our community.  She teaches Sunday School at her church, has volunteered with the Special Olympics of Tennessee for more than 20 years, has been involved in girls Junior Pro Basketball for third through sixth graders as a coach or director for more than 10 years, led clothing and food drives to help the homeless, and is a team leader in the American Breast Cancer Coalition.

Married to Nashville Fire Department Captain, Phillip LeGate, for 27 years, Kim has three children and three grandchildren.
